Doctoral Qualifying Procedure Guidelines
Please first familiarize yourself with all the regulations in the doctoral degree regulations of the Faculty for Process and Systems Engineering.
Submission of Application Letter and Initiating the Doctoral Qualifying Procedure
should be submitted by the doctoral student to the Dean's Office on paper and signed
- Informal application letter
- 4 copies of the doctoral thesis (single-sided A4 print, bound)
- An electronic copy of the doctoral thesis (as a PDF-file on a digital data storage device [USB-drive or a CD/DVD-disk] to be kept at the Dean's Office)
- Academic CV
- List of publications written during your doctoral studies
- Suggestions from your supervisor including their name and contact details
- Written on paper ethical conduct declaration
- Disclosure of ciminal offenses related to academig activities
- Letter of consent for verification of deception attempts
- Summary of the submitted documents in both German and English languages
Review of the Doctoral Qualifying Procedure
will be carried out by the Dean's Office and the Faculty Council (duration: approx. 2 weeks)
- Clarification of committee chairmanship
- Faculty Council's resolution on the acceptance of the application and the formation of the Doctoral Examination Board consisting of examiners and chair people
- Informing the doctoral candidate and the Examination Board memberse about the decision
Evaluation Procurement
will be carried out by the Dean's Office (duration: at least 3 months)
Public Review and Evaluation of the Doctoral Thesis
will be carried out by the Dean's Office (duration: at least 10 working days)
- Showcasing at the Dean's Office or online for review carried out by Extended Faculty Council
- Information about showcasing is available at the Dean's Office
Colloquium: Formal Arrangements
will be carried out by the doctoral candidate, Doctoral Examination Board and Dean's Office
- Coordinating the colloquium date with the Doctoral Examination Board
- Issuing invitations and public notices (including time and place)
- Written formal notice to the members of the Doctoral Examination Board issued by the Dean's Office
Colloquium: Execution
will be carried out by the doctoral candidate and Doctoral Examination Board
- The colloquium consists of a presentation with a maximum duration of 30 minutes followed by a discussion
- The Doctoral Examination Board will be evaluating the work of the doctoral candidate
Colloquium: Post-Evaluation
will be carried out by the Faculty Council
- Report submission about doctoral qualifying procedure to the Faculty Council (mandatory for those graudating summa cum laude, and optional in other instances)
- Discussion and voting on the final grade
- Issuance of the submission certificate to the doctorate student
Submission of Mandatory Copies
should be submitted by the doctoral student
- The copies must be submitted to the University Library within 6 months
Issuance of the Doctoral Certificate
will be carried out by the Dean's Office
- Certificate preparation and signature procurement (Rector, Dean)
- The certificate must be collected by the doctoral student in person or will be sent to their address per post with acknowledgment of receipt
Congratulations!
After recieving the certificate you are eligible to use the title Doctor of Engineering (Dr.-Ing.) or Doctor of Natural Sciences (Dr. rer. nat.).
